ANGEL STUDIOS JOINS NINTENDO ULTRA 64 DREAM TEAM; World renowned computer graphics studio makes transition from "The Lawnmower Man" and MTV award-winning music videos to develop game for Nintendo's 64-bit home video game system.
Based in Carlsbad, Calif., Angel Studios is a pioneer in the development of advanced real-time, virtual reality applications and compelling three-dimensional interactive software. They may be best known for their stunning, award-winning visual effects in Hollywood's virtual reality thriller, "The Lawnmower Man," and the surrealistic animation in Peter Gabriel's music video, "Kiss That Frog," winner of the 1994 MTV Video Music Award for Best Special Effects.
Angel Studios has already begun working with a Nintendo creative team led by Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Nintendo's smash hits, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros., on the yet untitled, real-time interactive 3-D game for the new 64-bit home video game system now being developed by Nintendo and Silicon Graphics Inc. (NYSE:SGI).
"Angel Studios is recognized around the world as a leading creator of amazing three-dimensional graphics and real-time environments," says Howard Lincoln, chairman of Nintendo of America. "Their award-winning work in music videos, motion pictures and commercials will transfer nicely to the video game industry -- in particular to our powerful 64-bit system."
"We've waited patiently to enter the video game industry until a vehicle was developed that allowed us to fully display our talents -- Nintendo Ultra 64 is that vehicle," says Diego Angel, CEO for Angel Studios. "The creative energy being committed to this game by the staff at Angel Studios, coupled with the capability to render `on-the-fly' in real time as built into the powerful Nintendo Ultra 64 system, will produce a video game for Nintendo Ultra 64 unmatched in its graphics quality and interactive game play enjoyment."
The Nintendo Ultra 64 system is the product of a worldwide joint development and license agreement combining Nintendo's expertise in video game development with Silicon Graphics' renowned visual computing technologies as utilized to create special effects in numerous blockbuster motion pictures. Nintendo's 64-bit system, which will be available for home use in fall 1995, will carry a suggested retail price below $250.
