ANALOG DEVICES DENIES PUBLISHED REPORT THAT SAYS
COMPANY PLANNING SUBMICRON WAFER FAB WITH FUJITSU
NORWOOD, Mass., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Nihon Keizai Shinbun, a leading economic newspaper in Japan, reported on August 28th that negotiations were underway between Analog Devices (NYSE: ADI) and Fujitsu to collaborate on the building a submicron wafer fabrication facility in the United States and to jointly develop integrated circuits for sound systems and other signal-processing applications.
In response to this report, Ray Stata, Chairman and CEO of Analog Devices, said, "While Fujitsu is an important customer for Analog Devices, and one with whom we continuously look for opportunities to strengthen our business relationship, there have been no discussions or even any plans for discussions that would lead to Analog Devices collaborating with Fujitsu on the building of a semiconductor facility in the United States or elsewhere, or to jointly develop integrated circuit products for use in sound systems." At the same time, the company acknowledged that its Japanese affiliate is working with Fujitsu to develop business for the automotive industry.
With fiscal 1991 revenues of $538 million, Analog Devices is a Fortune 500 manufacturer of precision, high-performance integrated circuits used in analog and digital signal processing applications. The company employs approximately 5,200 people worldwide and has manufacturing facilities in Massachusetts, California, North Carolina, Ireland, Japan, the Philippines and Taiwan.
