ANADARKO APPARENT HIGH BIDDER FOR NORTH INDIA BLOCK

HOUSTON, Nov. 19 ~PRNewswire~ -- Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: APC) today confirmed reports published in New Delhi by India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas that the company is negotiating a $27 million agreement to explore for and develop crude oil reserves.
According to Anadarko's proposed agreement, the company will hold a 66-2~3 percent working interest in a seven-year work program which includes an initial two-year seismic option phase followed by two additional phases of drilling. The company's partners include two Korean exploration firms -- Lucky-Goldstar International Corporation and Kyung In Energy Company.
Anadarko and its partners plan to explore for oil on the Rajasthan Block RJ-ON-90~1, which encompasses approximately two million acres. The block is located in a sparsely populated, semi-arid valley immediately north of the hydrocarbon rich Cambay Basin. It was one of 72 blocks offered during India's fourth bid round held in April 1992.
"We are excited about the opportunities that this area offers to find big oil reserves," said John Seitz, vice president, Exploration. "Recent discoveries located north and south of the block further enhance our belief that we are well positioned for success. This addition to Anadarko's portfolio of exploration prospects complements the company's balanced mix of domestic and international plays."
Anadarko Petroleum Corporation is one of the nation's largest independent natural gas and crude oil exploration and production companies. Anadarko's exploration, development and production activities are concentrated in North America's primary geologic basins onshore and offshore. Exploration efforts also are conducted in frontier areas of the United States and overseas. Anadarko has activities in 20 states and three Canadian provinces.
