AMU condemns kidnapping of Algerian Consul, six other diplomats by Mali.

| rebels ALGIERS, April 6 (KUNA) -- The Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) strongly condemned on Friday the kidnapping of Algerian consul and six diplomats in the Malian city of Gao, and strongly denounced this "barbaric aggression contrary to all the international laws and standards." The AMU said it was following closely with deep concern development of this aggression, expressing its solidarity with the kidnapped persons as well as their families, AMU general Secretariat said in a statement.

The Union wished to see "the Malian authorities to take the appropriate measures to ensure security the kidnapped persons and guarantee their return safe to their families and relatives," the statement said.

Last night, Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci said that unknown group has kidnapped the Consul, and provided a briefing on the unrest in the Algerian Consulate in Gao. (end) ft.mb KUNA 062113 Apr 12NNNN
