AMTRAK FACES POSSIBLE STRIKE JUNE 24
WASHINGTON, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Amtrak passenger train

service could be affected by a strike on June 24. Under the provisions of the Railway Labor Act, unions which have not settled new contracts with Amtrak and several freight railroads would be free to strike at 12:01 a.m., on June 24. Those transit authority commuter train services which share Amtrak employees or facilities could also be affected.
Amtrak has already signed agreements with labor organizations representing approximately 63 percent of its employees, but six unions representing the remainder of its work force have not yet settled. Amtrak has been meeting on a continuous basis to try to achieve settlements with these remaining unions, but as the deadline for a legal strike approaches, the chance of a walkout by one or more of these unions increases.
It is not known whether a walkout will occur nor, if one does occur, when or where it may take place. However, passengers planning to commence rail travel on June 24 and those en route aboard long- distance trains at that time are advised that service disruptions may occur.
