AMTECH CORPORATION TO DEMONSTRATE INTELLITAG(TM) ON THE TOBIN BRIDGE IN BOSTON

DALLAS, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Amtech Corporation (NASDAQ: AMTC) today announced it is providing a 90-day demonstration of its read-write radio frequency identification (RFID) system, IntelliTag(tm), on the Tobin Bridge in Boston. The IntelliTag(tm) system provides nonstop, electronic toll collection which increases traffic flow and reduces traffic congestion and pollution. During the demonstration, Amtech will work with seven area agencies including the Massachusetts Port Authority, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Massachusetts Highway Department, Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Transportation Association and CARAVAN, a commuter van pool service. The pilot system is being implemented under a previous contract awarded to Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and Amtech to install toll collection and recording equipment in the Tobin Bridge's reconstructed toll plaza.
Amtech's IntelliTag(tm) read-write system allows two-way communication between an electronic tag on a vehicle and roadside equipment. Not only can data be retrieved from the tag, but information can dynamically be written back to the tag. Toll authorities can use the IntelliTag(tm) system to duplicate "ticket" type toll collection systems. In this example, a vehicle's entry time and point onto the toll facility are recorded in the tag. Upon exiting the toll facility, this information is retrieved and the fare is electronically deducted from an account.
"The technology of this system is ideally suited for agencies wishing to replicate their ticket systems electronically," said Mike Breslin, Amtech's vice president of marketing. "We have worked hard to develop reliable and cost-effective read-write capabilities for the U.S. toll authorities, and the result is IntelliTag(tm)."
With more than 550 lanes of electronic toll collection equipment currently installed, Amtech's equipment currently handles over 150 million revenue transactions annually in the United States, France, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.
Amtech Corporation designs, manufactures, markets and supports a line of hardware and software products and provides services utilizing its proprietary radio frequency electronic identification technology. Radio frequency electronic identification (RFID) technology permits the remote identification of and communication with trucks, automobiles, rail cars, intermodal containers and other transportation equipment through the use of radio signals. Amtech products are currently marketed to the Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS), intermodal transportation, rail transportation, vehicle fleet management and access control, and air freight industries.
