AMTECH ADDS NEW OUTSIDE DIRECTOR

 DALLAS, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Amtech Corporation (NASDAQ: AMTC) announced today that Elmer W. Johnson has been elected to its board of directors effective Jan. 4, 1993. Johnson joins Ken-ichi Kubota of Mitsubishi Corporation, and James S. Martson, senior vice president and chief information officer, American President Companies, Ltd., as an outside director of Amtech.
 Johnson is a senior partner in the Chicago law firm of Kirkland & Ellis, having originally joined the firm in 1956. From 1983 to 1988, Johnson held various offices at General Motors Corporation, including executive vice president and director. He also served as a member of the executive and finance committees of the GM board. In his career, Johnson has served as General Counsel for International Harvester during its reorganization from 1981 to 1983 and as Special Counsel to the chairman of Ameritech Corporation in connection with the break-up of AT&T during 1982-1983.
 Johnson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is currently chairing an interdisciplinary study project for the Academy on public policy and the automobile. He currently, and has in the past, served with numerous professional, educational and charitable organizations, including the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations and the Legal Advisory Committee to the New York Stock Exchange.

Radio frequency electronic identification (RFID) technology permits the remote identification of and communication with trucks, automobiles, rail cars, intermodal containers and other transportation equipment through the use of radio signals. Amtech products are currently marketed to the electronic toll and revenue collection, intermodal transportation, rail transportation, vehicle fleet management and access control, and air freight industries.
