AMT board candidates and elections--2008.

AMT registrants seeking a position on the national board of directors may file their intention with, and obtain the required candidate form from, the AMT office.

Two (2) MT/MLT, and one (1) RMA, Board of Directors positions are open in 2008.

Elections will be held during the AMT Annual Business Meeting on Friday, July 11, at 1:30 pm, at the Westin Hotel, Providence, RI.

All announced candidates will have photos and information displayed on a special bulletin board at the National Meeting, and will appear before the membership at a "Meet the Candidates" assembly.

Each prospective candidate must declare his/her candidacy to the chair of the Nominating Committee no later than noon, Tuesday, July 8.

Three members have declared their intentions to run for the open MT/MLT board positions: E. Roxann Clifton, Ray Schiffer, and Everett Bloodworth. Three members have declared their intentions to run for the open RMA position: Jeannie Hobson, Kim Meshell and Joanne Imperiale.

Roxann Clifton, MT, Sayre, OK, has been an AMT member for 26 years. She has been a national Board member since 2005 and is the current Secretary. She is a past president, vice president and editor of the Oklahoma state society. Honors include Oklahoma Technologist of the Year, national Distinguished Achievement, Exceptional Merit, Pillar, and Editor of the Year. Mrs. Clifton has a MEd and BS in Biology from SWOSU. She is Medical Laboratory Technician Program Director/Clinical Coordinator/Instructor at SWOSU at Sayre.

Among her reasons for wanting to serve on the national Board, Mrs. Clifton said, "... continue to strengthen our relationships with peer organizations so as to meet common goals; continued service to all membership categories; I believe I have represented the best interest of all our members during my first term on the board of directors. I pledge to continue to do so."

Ray Schiffer, MT, Lone Oak, TX, has been an AMT member for 31 years. He is the current Central District Councillor. He is a past president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of the Texas state society.

He earned a BS degree in Medical Technology from George William College and has done Master work in Interdisciplinary Studies at University of Texas/Tyler.

Honors include the Distinguished Achievement, Exceptional Merit, Pillar, Becky Award, Editor of the Year, Texas Technologist of the Year, and Texas President's Appreciation.

Mr. Schiffer stated his reasons for wanting to serve on the national board of directors as, "AMT promotes its disciplines as professionals and validates the education and training of its members. I have the experience and training to lead AMT in its goals and ambitions of the future."

Everett Bloodworth, MT, Benton, KY, has been a member of AMT for 37 years. He is the current Southern District Councillor. He is a past president, vice president and treasurer of the Kentucky state society.

He earned a Bachelors degree in Biology from Murray State University.

Honors include Distinguished Achievement, Exceptional Merit, Pillar, Becky Award, Editor of the Year, and Kentucky Member of the Year and President's Award.

Mr. Bloodworth stated his reasons for wanting to serve on the board of directors as, "... My main objective would be to work with the AMT board and other organizations to recruit to the medical technology field ... on two fronts. The first would be national advertising; next, ... programs and schools available for the increase in students. Through my dedication to medical technology, I feel I can help make a change happen."

Jeannette "Jeannie" Hobson, RMA, RPT, CMAS, AHI, Fresno, CA, has been a member of AMT for 10 years. She is the current California state president. She served as the CSSAMT recording secretary and has also served on several national committees.

Jeannie received an AS degree from and is an instructor at San Joaquin Valley College in Fresno.

Honors include the MOM, Distinguished Achievement Award, RMA of the Year, RPT of the Year, and state Distinguished Merit.

Her reasons for wanting to serve on the National Board of Directors: "I believe I have been a positive and active participant in AMT for many years. I believe in the "member" concept of governing.... Because I hold the RMA, RPT, CMAS, and AHI certifications, this enables me to think in wider perspective than only one discipline ... I am ready to make positive contributions to the national board."

Kimberly Meshell, RMA, COLT, AHI, Lufkin, TX, has been a member of AMT for 7 years. She is the current editor of the Texas state society and has served on several committees.

She earned an Associates of Applied Science and is currently working on her Bachelor's degree for MT. She is an instructor/ clinical coordinator at Angelina College.

Honors include Distinguished Achievement and First Place Journal.

Ms. Meshell stated her reasons for wanting to serve on the national board of directors as, "I would like to bring new faces and ideas into the future. We need to grow as an organization. I have a lot of students whom I can bring on board and a lot of new ideas to bring our membership up."

Joanne Imperiale, RMA, RPT, Highlands Ranch, CO, has been a member of AMT for 11 years. She serves as the current Rocky Mountains state society Secretary and has served on various committees.

She graduated from Denver School of Nursing as LPN and is completing coursework for RN. She also attended Pima Medical Institute for Medical Assistants.

Honors include Distinguished Achievement and state society RMA of the Year.

Ms. Imperiale stated her reasons for wanting to serve on the national boardof directors as, "I would like to aid in the importance of medical assistants in the workforce and encourage the 'Pride of the Profession.' Eventually would like to teach medical assistants."
