AMSERV HEALTHCARE REPORTS SMALL FIRST QUARTER
 LOSS FROM CONTINUING OPERATIONS
RENO, Nev., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- AMSERV HEALTHCARE INC. (NASDAQ:AMSR), today reported sales from continuing operations of $4,338,000 for its first quarter of fiscal 1993 ended Sept. 30, 1992, compared with sales of $4,480,000 in the first quarter of fiscal 1992. The company had a loss from continuing operations of $106,000, or 4 cents per share, compared with income from continuing operations of $89,000, or 3 cents per share, in the comparable period of fiscal 1992.
Net loss for the first quarter was also $106,000, or 4 cents per share, compared with net income of $191,000, or 6 cents per share, in the first quarter of fiscal 1992, which included $102,000 in net income from discontinued operations. The company expects to return to profitability during 1993.
"First quarter results were in line with our forecast. Sales for temporary nursing services were below the level of a year ago, contributing to the loss," said Gene Mora, chairman and CEO. "However, home care sales increased 8 percent over the prior year's first quarter. We have introduced home care services into two more offices, bringing the number of offices offering home care to seven, and plan to expand these services to all offices."
AMSERV HEALTHCARE INC. is a national healthcare services company with offices in 15 cities and nine states. The company provides home care services for individuals, and nursing personnel for healthcare facilities.
