AMSERV HEALTHCARE REPORTS SECOND QUARTER RESULTS

RENO, Nev., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- AMSERV HEALTHCARE INC. (NASDAQ: AMSR), today reported sales from continuing operations of $4,660,000 for its second quarter of fiscal 1993 ended Dec. 31, 1992, compared with sales of $3,913,000 in the second quarter of fiscal 1992. The company had a loss from continuing operations of $89,000, or 3 cents per share, compared with a loss from continuing operations of $8,000, less than one cent per share, in the same period a year ago.
The company's net loss for the second quarter was also $89,000, or 3 cents per share, compared with net income of $159,000, or 5 cents per share, in the second quarter of fiscal 1992, which included $167,000, or 5 cents per share, in net income from discontinued operations.
For the six months ended Dec. 31, 1992, sales from continuing operations were $8,998,000, compared with $8,393,000 in the comparable period last year. The company's loss from continuing operations for the period was $195,000, or 7 cents per share, compared with income from continuing operations of $82,000, or 3 cents per share, for the same period last year.
The company's net loss for the first six months was also $195,000, or 7 cents per share, compared with net income of $351,000, or 11 cents per share for the same period last year, which included $269,000, or 8 cents per share, from discontinued operations.
"Our losses from continuing operations for the quarter and six months were in line with our forecast," said Gene Mora, AMSERV chairman and CEO. "Our increased sales and operating expenses for the quarter and year-to-date were the result of our MEDPRO acquisition in July 1992. Overall, our home care sales were up in the first six months, while temporary nursing sales from comparable offices were below the level of a year ago, contributing to our losses. However, we have seen a pick-up in temporary nursing demand which should improve third quarter results. We continue to expect a return to profitable operations in calendar 1993."
AMSERV HEALTHCARE INC. is a national healthcare services company with offices in 15 cities and nine states. The company provides home care services for individuals, and nursing personnel for healthcare facilities.
