 AMSCO EARNS LABOR-MANAGEMENT COOPERATION AWARD
 ERIE, Pa., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- On behalf of Gov. Robert P.


Casey, Labor & Industry Secretary Tom Foley today presented the Governor's Award for Labor-Management Cooperation to the workers and managers of AMSCO for their commitment to quality products and to a safe workplace.
 "The workers and managers of AMSCO have recognized that forming a partnership is the best way to meet the challenges of a tough, global marketplace," Foley said.
 "Joint labor-management cooperation helps AMSCO deliver high quality goods and services at a competitive price. Total quality management means that production and customer service, as well as health and safety issues, are met head-on by a team effort."
 Foley presented the award at the annual meeting of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Area Labor-Management Council to: Charles A. Piano, president, and Jack Hartman, vice president of Local 832 of the United Auto Workers; Thomas Cichocki, chief steward, and William Drabic, steward of Local 1968 of the International Association of Machinists; and to Thomas G. VanDyke, AMSCO corporate vice president of manufacturing and engineering, and John Aymong, general manager of Erie manufacturing.
 AMSCO International, Inc. has 1,200 employees in Erie who manufacture and provide sterilization, infection control, surgical and related equipment, supplies and services to the health care, scientific, laboratory and pharmaceutical markets.
 The company, now headquartered in Pittsburgh, was established in Erie in 1894.
 Reducing injuries, reviewing workers' compensation claims on a monthly basis and adding light duty positions have improved work performance and lowered costs.
 Representatives from labor and management hold regular meetings to share information allowing input from labor to enter into company decision making.
