AMS Primes Small Group Business With Introduction of New Dental Insurance Products.

GREEN BAY, Wis., July 10 /PRNewswire/ --

American Medical Security Group, Inc. (NYSE: AMZ) (AMS) continued to implement its strategic growth plan by introducing new small-group dental insurance products in 21 states.

The GroupDentalChoice products feature increased flexibility in simplified plan designs. AMS believes the restructured products will appeal to a wider range of small employers who buy dental coverage as part of their employee health insurance packages or purchase it on a stand-alone basis.

"The new dental products should be seen as further orchestration of our strategic plan to build shareholder value," said Samuel V. Miller, AMS Chairman & Chief Executive Officer. "The product offering also reflects our continuing commitment to the small group market and the independent agents who represent our plans."

Miller said that the company soon will also be unveiling a new portfolio of small-group health insurance products designed to meet the needs of small employers during a period of significant health care cost inflation.

AMS' new dental plans feature deductibles of $25 and $50 annually or $100-lifetime, and a range of coinsurance and calendar-year benefit maximums that allow the plans to be customized for employer needs. Orthodontia coverage is also available as a plan option.

The plans will become available August 1, 2001, and will initially be offered in Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. State Insurance Department approval is pending in seven other states.

According to David Roth, AMS Product Director - Dental, the new products have been given high marks by agents who have previewed the new plan design and marketing support.

Roth also said that agents are pleased with the fact that customer support is available from AMS every day, around the clock.

Roth is part of an experienced sales and marketing management team brought in by AMS to build market share in its profitable dental business. Other AMS dental managers include Regional Dental Sales Directors Carter Campbell and Lou Baith.

To support the field sales effort for the dental plans, AMS is running advertisements in national insurance industry magazines and sending direct mailers to agents in targeted states.
