OCALA, Fla., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- AMP(R) of Harrisburg, Pa., has taken an equity position in Intellon Corporation, as part of Intellon's recently completed $7.5 million private offering.
Bill Stape, director of global sales and marketing for AMP Strategic Businesses said, "We are very interested in the enabling technologies in growth markets, particularly in home automation. Intellon will give us a window into the CEBus(R) home automation marketplace. Their Spread Spectrum Carrier(TM) Technology is also viable in other markets as well as other applications."
The proven business track record of Jim Vander Mey, president and chief executive officer for Intellon, was also cited as a reason for the AMP investment in Intellon. Vander Mey said, "We are pleased that AMP has taken a financial stake in our company's operations. This phase of capitalization will allow for the continued, rapid expansion of Intellon to accommodate the growth of the CEBus market."
CEBus is the Consumer Electronics Bus (EIA IS-60) and was developed by the Electronic Industries Association. Intellon's Spread Spectrum Carrier Technology is specified as the communications technology for implementing CEBus power line and radio frequency products.
According to Stape, AMP is a strong advocate for the convergence of standards in the home automation marketplace. "There are a number of home automation technologies and these need to come together. Taking an equity position in Intellon further demonstrates our commitment to establishing interoperability between CEBus and the SMART HOUSE products." Intellon and AMP are currently working on a bridge for CEBus implementation with SMART HOUSE.
