 AMOCO TESTS SIGNIFICANT HYDROCARBON DISCOVERY
 IN SHARJAH, U.A.E.
HOUSTON, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Amoco Sharjah Oil Company today announced the discovery of a significant natural gas and liquids accumulation in an exploratory well recently completed in north central Sharjah, 20 miles southeast of Sharjah City.
The Kahaif-2 exploratory well flowed at rates as high as 73 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd) and 1,615 barrels of condensate per day (bcpd) during recent tests of a 700-foot net pay interval encountered in the Early Cretaceous Thamama Group, according to David F. Work group vice president of worldwide exploration for Amoco Production Company.
"The well is the first in a new exploratory drilling program based on the re-interpretation of three-dimensional seismic data obtained by Amoco in 1984," said Work.
"The Kahaif-2 well, and recent successful development drilling in Moveyeid field, confirm our belief in the remaining excellent potential in Sharjah and will have great impact on our future drilling program," he said.
In September, Amoco Sharjah completed successful negotiations for additional onshore Sharjah acreage. The acreage secured west and south of its existing concession area has increased Amoco's acreage position by 50 percent, to 224,000 acres, Work said. A seismic survey of the new acreage will be conducted in 1993.
The Kahaif-2 was drilled to a total depth 13,897 feet. Flow tests were completed through 56/64" choke with 5,200 pounds per square inch of flowing tubing pressure.
Amoco Sharjah Oil Company, which holds a 40 percent working interest in the well, believes that production from the Kahaif structure will help the company meet the growing demands of its United Arab Emirates customers.
The new discovery is located approximately 10 miles south of Amoco's producing fields Sajaa and Moveyeid. Discovered in 1980 and 1982 respectively, these fields currently produce combined rates of 38,000 bcpd and 580 mmcfd. Production from both fields is processed at Amoco's Sajaa gas plant which produces 13,000 barrels daily of liquefied petroleum gas.
Amoco Sharjah Oil Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amoco Production Company, the worldwide oil and gas exploration and production subsidiary of Amoco Corporation (NYSE: AN).
