AMOCO NAMES M. A. HANNA DISTRIBUTOR FOR AMODEL(R) POLYPHTHALAMIDE ENGINEERING RESIN

ALPHARETTA, Ga., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Amoco Performance Products, Inc. today announced signing of an agreement with the M.A. Hanna Company of Cleveland to become U.S. distributor of Amodel(R) polyphthalamide (PPA), the Amoco high performance engineering polymer introduced in 1991.
Amoco also will continue to serve Amodel customers through its industry sales organizations, according to R.I. McNeel, president of the Georgia-based subsidiary of Amoco Chemical Company, Chicago.
Hanna's national network of 30 resin distribution centers will supplement Amoco's own market development role with this product, and extend sales and service to custom molders across the U.S. Hanna's national network includes Bruck Plastics Co., Chicago; Fiberchem, Inc., Seattle; and Plastics Distributing Corporation, Ayer, Mass.
This appointment follows two previously announced moves. In March, Amoco announced an agreement with Rhone-Poulenc Chimie, Paris, to unite their technical and sales resources to promote Amodel(R) polyphthalamide in Europe. And last December, formation of Teijin Amoco Engineering Plastics Ltd. in Tokyo was announced.
The appointment of M.A. Hanna Co. was described by Mr. McNeel as "an important part of our plans to expand sales of Amodel PPA domestically by offering improved service and timely deliveries to the entire molding community nationwide."
Martin D. Walker, M.A. Hanna's chairman and CEO, said that "our focus as a leader in distribution is to develop strategies with resin producers to more effectively bring their materials to the market place. Amoco PPA resins fit well at the high end of our portfolio."
Amoco Performance Products, Inc., headquartered in suburban Atlanta, is a world leader in the manufacture of proprietary high-temperature engineering thermoplastics, with thermal capabilities to over 600 degrees F, and with distinctive cost/performance advantages over ceramics, metal and many other engineering materials.
To support its international polyphthalamide business, Amoco operates a world scale PPA plant at its Augusta, Ga. site utilizing the company's proprietary production technology.
