AMOCO LAUNCHES NEW FULL-SERVICE CERTICARE IN TWIN CITIES

MINNEAPOLIS, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- It's "back to the future" as Amoco Oil Company introduces its new Certicare auto repair franchise in the Twin Cities. Amoco is investing up to $3.5 million to upgrade and revamp its automotive repair facilities, providing customers with a corner service station that will meet the demands of the 21st century.
"Our goal is to ensure that our customers receive quality, guaranteed auto repair service," stated Joe King, Amoco district manager. "Contrary to popular opinion, the corner service station has not disappeared at Amoco. In fact, over 40 locations in the Twin Cities alone will have these new Certicare franchises."
One of the keys to the new Certicare service will be the addition of extensive computerization. Through the installation of new computers and special software, each Amoco Certicare facility will have the capability to maintain complete vehicle repair histories for each customer. In addition to offering guaranteed vehicle repair estimates, those stations accepted into new Certicare will also agree to participate in mediation to resolve any customer complaints that may arise.
The new program stresses the importance of the training and high- tech knowledge needed to perform repairs and maintenance on today's highly

sophisticated automobiles. Certicare repair technicians will have the resources to address everything from routine maintenance such as oil changes to serious repair work on the engines, drive trains, etc.
"The corner filling station business really started to change 25 years ago," added King. "Back then, foreign-made autos were just starting to make inroads into the U.S. economy, and the idea of full- service auto repair was gradually giving way to self-serve and food shops. Now, with the new, upgraded Certicare franchise, Amoco is taking a giant stride to return the concept of 'repair service' to the gasoline business," King said.
Amoco's program will offer a wide range of special features including new signs and logos, guaranteed estimates and a customer service hotline. Many Certicare facilities also have convenience store items and state-of-the-art car washes.
Amoco Oil is the largest retailer of gasoline and petroleum products in the state. The oil company manufactures, transports and markets petroleum products as an operating subsidiary of Amoco Corporation, one of the world's leading petroleum and chemical companies.
