AMOCO FABRICS AND FIBERS FORMS JOINT VENTURE
WITH RHONE-POULENC FIBRES TO MARKET KERMEL FIBER
CHICAGO, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Amoco Fabrics and Fibers Company and Rhone-Poulenc Fibres have formed a joint venture to market the family of KERMEL(TM) flame-resistant fibers, Amoco Chemical Company Executive Vice President William T. Harper announced today.
According to Harper, Amoco will combine its established technical and business resources with Rhone-Poulenc's extensive experience in flame-resistant fibers.
"We are enthusiastic about the opportunities created by this joint venture," Harper said. "Each company has unique strengths which, when combined, will help us to successfully market KERMEL worldwide."
KERMEL is an aramid fiber with unique, flame-resistant characteristics which blends easily with other fibers to produce a balance of protection and comfort. These fabrics are well-suited for workwear applications in petrochemical, utility, and emergency service industries.
The KERMEL fiber is manufactured at Rhone-Poulenc's Colmar, France, facility. Amoco will use its established marketing structure to extend the product from Rhone-Poulenc's well-established European base to customers in North America and beyond. Additionally, the two companies will combine their research and development capabilities to develop new flame resistance technologies.
Amoco Fabrics and Fibers is a unit of Amoco Chemical Company, the chemical manufacturing and marketing subsidiary of Chicago-based Amoco Corporation (NYSE: AN). Rhone-Poulenc Fibres is a subsidiary of Rhone- Poulenc, the manufacturing and marketing company based in France.
