AMOCO EGYPT COMPLETES NEW 11,500 BARREL PER DAY OIL WELL

AMOCO EGYPT COMPLETES NEW 11,500 BARREL PER DAY OIL WELL
CHICAGO, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Amoco Egypt Oil Company today

announced it has tested oil at rates as high at 11,500 barrels daily from its fourth successful well in a new oil zone in the October field, located in the Northern Gulf of Suez some 150 miles southwest of Cairo.
The well, the October J-7A, was drilled to a total depth of 12,775 feet from the October "J" producing platform and tested oil from the ASL Sandstone formation.
The ASL Sandstone was first found productive in the North October 183-1 well, which was drilled from the October "D" platform in 1989. Since then three additional successful wells, including the October J- 7A, have been completed in the ASL formation from the October "J" platform. Production from the four wells now totals about 25,000 barrels of oil daily.
According to C.J. Pitman, president of Amoco Egypt Oil Company, options for additional drilling and development of the ASL Sand are now under consideration.
"The October J-7A success is an excellent example of additional oil potential in some of our larger Egyptian oil fields," Pitman said.
"The ability to use existing infrastructure to develop this additional oil significantly increases the economic potential. An added benefit of the J-7A well is that its naturally high flow rates will not require artificial lift until sometime in the future," Pitman added.
All four of the ASL completions are operated by Gupco, a joint venture of Amoco and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation. Amoco Egypt is a subsidiary of Amoco Production Company, the worldwide oil and gas exploration and production subsidiary of Amoco Corporation (NYSE: AN).
