AMOCO CANADA MAKES MAJOR GAS DISCOVERY IN BRITISH COLUMBIA

CALGARY, Alberta, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Amoco Canada Petroleum Company Ltd. and Talisman Energy Inc. have completed another major natural gas discovery in the Sukunka area of northeastern British Columbia.
Named the Sukunka a-6-F/93-P-5, the Talisman-operated discovery tested gas at an initial rate of 42 million cubic feet per day on a seven-eighths inch choke at a well head flowing pressure of 3207 psi. The well, equally owned by Amoco and Talisman, penetrated a previously undrilled geological structure, encountering 669 feet of gross productive pay in the area's Pardonet and Baldonnel formations.
"While we will drill more wells to determine the full potential of this new field, we do believe it to be substantial," said T. Don Stacy, chairman and president of Amoco Canada. "This is the fourth consecutive successful deep gas well drilled by the Amoco-Talisman partnership in the Sukunka area in the past two years."
In addition to the new discovery announced today, the three other successful wells drilled by the two companies include Burnt River (42 million cubic feet per day), Brazion (85 million cubic feet per day), and South Brazion (75 million cubic feet per day). A fifth, Talisman- Amoco Sukunka d-39-C/93-P-5, has just been completed and is currently being tested.
Sukunka is located southwest of Fort St. John, about 700 kilometers (435 miles) northeast of Vancouver, B.C.
A pipeline gathering system that will tie three of the completed wells into Westcoast Energy's Pine River system and production facilities should be completed by the third quarter of 1993.
Amoco Canada Petroleum Company Ltd. is a subsidiary of Chicago-based Amoco Corporation (NYSE: AN). Talisman Energy Inc. is an independent Canadian public oil and gas producing company.
