AMNET DEPLOYS COM21 XB SYSTEMS WITH DP1110XB MODEMS.

Costa Rica-based cable operator AMNET, Central America's largest provider of broadband services, has commercially deployed multiple Com21 XB Systems in Costa Rica. The Com21 XB System consists of the DOXcontroller 1000XB Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS), NMAPS XB (Network Management and Provisioning System), and DOXport 111OXB DOCSIS 1.1 certified cable modem. AMNET selected the XB System because it provides an easy transition to a DOCSIS-based system and enables them to offer their customers advanced broadband services and functionality not available in other systems, at a price-performance point that beats the competition.

"The success of our trials in September led to our decision to deploy immediately throughout Costa Rica," said vice president Chris Pepper of Amzak International, AMNET's corporate parent. "Features such as VLANs, NMAPS and XB modems make end-to-end system deployment of advanced services very practical. We are currently considering an expansion of our XB deployment into additional markets including El Salvador, among other locations."

"This multi-CMTS roll-out of our XB system by a leading regional MSO marks our transition out of the R&D phase," said Dave Baran, vice president of DOCSIS for Com21. "Our success in the burgeoning broadband markets of Central America shows the value to MSOs of our XB System's features and price points. We are proud to continue our relationship with one of our leading customers as they make the transition to DOCSIS."

The XB System, which enables an ideal migration path for cable operators transitioning from ATM to DOCSIS-based solutions, combines the DOXcontroller 1000XB CMTS with the recently enhanced Com21 NMAPS (Network Management and Provisioning System) capabilities including advanced TDMA support and superior performance for advanced symmetrical data rate applications. The XB System provides full support for both DOCSIS and Euro-DOCSIS environments, with digital receiver technology to deliver ingress noise cancellation and full spectrum analysis.
