AMEX LISTS WARRANTS ON AMEX CREATED HONG KONG 30 INDEX; MORGAN STANLEY GROUP INC. ISSUES 6 MILLION THREE-YEAR WARRANTS

NEW YORK, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Stock Exchange today listed call warrants based on the AMEX Hong Kong 30 Index, an index of 30 common stocks trading on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Issued by Morgan Stanley Group Inc., the AMEX Hong Kong 30 Index Call Warrants will trade under the ticker symbol MHK.WS
The warrants carry a strike price of 485.68. Underwritten by Morgan Stanley & Co. Incorporated and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corporation, the warrants are cash settled in U.S. dollars and expire on November 4, 1996. The warrants can be exercised any day prior to expiration.
"MHK.WS is the third Hong Kong 30 Index listing since the AMEX began trading put and call warrants on the Index last week," said Benjamin D. Krause, AMEX Senior Vice President of Capital Markets. "Today's listing confirms investors' demand for products like MHK.WS, which can be successfully employed by globally oriented investors as part of an overall risk management strategy."
At the start of today's trading, MHK.WS opened at 5-1/4 on an initial trade of 10,000 warrants.
The new warrants are expected to trade much like call options on the AMEX Hong Kong 30 Index, typically rising in value when the index rises, and falling when the index declines.
Created by the Exchange, the AMEX Hong Kong 30 Index is a capitalization-weighted stock index which measures the composite price performance of 30 selected stocks on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Representing a substantial segment of the Hong Kong stock market, these securities primarily represent areas of finance, property development, utilities and conglomerates, as well as food retailing, hotel/leisure, property investment, airlines and luxury retailing.
The introduction of the Hong Kong 30 Index warrants follows earlier precedents set by the Exchange when it was the first U.S. securities marketplace to provide a market in warrants based on the FT-SE Eurotrack 200, France's CAC-40 Index, London's FT-SE 100 and Japan's Nikkei Stock Average.
