AMEX INDEX BREAKS 450 FOR FIRST TIME EVER WITH LARGEST DAILY GAIN OF THE YEAR

 NEW YORK, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Stock Exchange Market Value Index shattered its all-time record high by posting its largest one-day increase of the year.
 The Amex Index closed at 453.20, the first time ever above the 450 mark, on a gain of 4.69, the biggest rise since April 30, 1992.
 The record close was the 26th of the year. The Amex Index has jumped 13.52 percent in 1993, far outpacing the gains in all other major market indices for the year (see below).
 The Amex Market Value Index is the composite weighted value of equity securities traded on the American Stock Exchange.
