AMEX CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER JULES WINTERS NAMED ACTING CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER PENDING SEARCH FOR NEW CHAIRMAN

 NEW YORK, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Stock Exchange board of governors has appointed Amex Chief Operating Officer Jules L. Winters as acting chief executive officer pending the exchange's search for a new chairman to succeed James R. Jones who is now U.S. Ambassador to Mexico.
 Winters will carry out all duties of the chairman except that of presiding at board of governors' meetings. The exchange constitution assigns this function to the vice chairman who is Joel L. Lovett, president of Jacee Securities, an Amex specialist firm. Winters had been named chief operating officer in December, 1992, and will retain those responsibilities in addition to his new duties as acting CEO.
