AMEX'S 'SPIDERS' (STANDARD & POOR'S DEPOSITARY RECEIPTS) CLIMB TO NEARLY THREE MILLION SHARES BY END OF FIRST WEEK OF TRADING

 NEW YORK, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Volume in the American Stock Exchange's new Standard & Poor's Depositary Receipts (named SPIDERS), reached nearly 3 million shares since trading began on the Exchange Jan. 29, 1993. The first week's volume totaled 2,745,900 shares and averaged 549,180 shares daily.
 Trading under ticker symbol SPY, SPDRs represent ownership in a unit investment trust that holds a portfolio of S&P 500 Index stocks.
