 AMETEK BUYS BRITISH FILTER BUSINESS
PAOLI, Pa., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Ametek, Inc. (NYSE: AME)

announced today that, through its newly formed subsidiary Ametek Filters Ltd., it had completed the cash purchase of the assets and filtration business of Eurofiltec, Ltd., a subsidiary of Eurovein, Ltd. of Sheffield, England.
This filtration business, a producer of replaceable cartridge-type commercial and industrial filtration equipment, has a 25,000-square-foot manufacturing plant with more than 40 employees at Billingham in the Tees-side region of England, which will now operate as Ametek Filters Ltd. As part of the sales agreement, a Eurovein subsidiary, Eurofiltec S.A. of France, will market the British-made Ametek Filters Ltd. industrial filter line in France and other French-speaking markets.
Ametek is a leading U.S. producer of replaceable cartridge-type filters, with its filtration equipment exported to distributors in 60 countries from its Plymouth Products plant in Sheboygan, Wisc. That operation is now producing more than 20,000 replacement cartridges per day and can supply more than 60 different special-purpose cartridges for water, food and beverage, cosmetics and chemical filtration, according to Ametek's Industrial Materials group vice president Peter A. Guercio.
Guercio noted that the marketing of its U.S.-made filter products in England will continue to be handled exclusively by Fileder Filter Systems, Ltd. of Maidstone, its filter product distributor for more than 10 years.
"Ametek plans to expand the British operation," Guercio said. "With a broader product line and a manufacturing and warehousing base in Billingham we will be able to serve our established distributors much more efficiently. Our distributor base, coupled with the agreement with the French firm, Eurofiltec S.A., gives Ametek a strong presence in some of the world's fastest-growing markets for commercial and industrial filtration systems."
Ametek, a Fortune-500 industrial manufacturer with 30 plants and more than 6,300 employees worldwide, has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 1930.
