AMERITECH INTRODUCES VOICE MAIL BY OHIO BELL

CLEVELAND, Nov. 30 ~PRNewswire~ -- Beginning today, telephone customers in the metro Columbus and Cleveland areas will be able to obtain voice mail service directly from Ohio Bell.
Voice Mail from Ohio Bell is a service that answers calls when customers can't. One advantage unique to voice mail is that callers can leave messages even when the person they're calling is on another call. That way, callers don't receive a busy signal and people can retrieve messages and return calls when it's most convenient for them.
The system will store up to 30 messages for 16 days, indicating the date and time of each call. Cost for this package will be $7.10 per month.
An enhanced version of the service offers a longer greeting, storage capacity of 60 messages, and two-way message capability. The enhanced package is especially useful for small businesses and customers who work at home. The monthly price for this service is $14.80.
"Voice Mail from Ohio Bell is much more than just an improvement over answering machines -- it's really an information service that gives people added control over their lifestyles and businesses," said Sue Miljanich, Ohio Bell vice president of sales.
"With Voice Mail from Ohio Bell, there's no special equipment to buy, no tapes to break, no remembering to turn a machine off or on, and no need for repairs," Miljanich said. "Even if there's a power outage, customers can still retrieve their messages because the technology is located in Ohio Bell's central offices.
"And because it uses the latest in digital technology, Voice Mail from Ohio Bell provides excellent sound quality and reliability so customers won't have to worry about garbled or missed messages," she said.
The service provides many of the same features voice mail users are already accustomed to seeing in the workplace. For example, subscribers will be able to place a one-minute greeting message, and callers will have three minutes to leave incoming messages. Voice mail service also comes with around-the-clock assistance through a toll-free voice mail help line.
The service initially will be offered to customers in most of the metro Cleveland and Columbus areas. Additional features, such as two- way and broadcast messaging, will be introduced next year as well.
To obtain Voice Mail from Ohio Bell, customers can call their local Ohio Bell office at 800-660-1000, or 800-222-2522.
