 AMERITECH CUSTOMERS GET "COMPLETE" CHECKS;
 ALMOST 500,000 CARDHOLDERS ON BOARD
 CHICAGO, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ameritech Complete(SM) MasterCard(R) is celebrating its first anniversary this month, and hundreds of thousands of Complete card customers will be cashing in on the occasion.
 Ameritech today announced its Complete cardmembers will be receiving more than $1.5 million based on calls they charged to the dual-purpose credit and calling card since the product was launched last October. The product's cash-back feature allows Ameritech's Bell company customers to get a check annually for 10 percent of what they spend on calling card calls in the previous year.
 For more than 1,000 Complete card customers, the cash-back checks will exceed $100.
 "While the convenience of using the card is year-round, this is when consumers are reminded of one of the main benefits of our product," said Richard Bialek, Ameritech director of credit card services, referring to the calling card feature that lets users make telephone calls away from home and charge them to their home number.
 To stimulate additional calling card usage, Ameritech is introducing an end-of-year sweepstakes in which customers can win up to $10,000 in cash, telephones, answering machines and Ameritech savings certificates. Each time cardholders make a calling card call, they get another entry for a grand-prize drawing. Also, customers who haven't used their calling card feature can win prizes just by calling a toll-free number and simulating a calling card call.
 Household Bank, N.A., which issues the card, is funding the certificates, prizes and cash-back offer. Sweepstakes information is being mailed to customers next week with their cash-back checks.
 Since being introduced a year ago, the Complete card has attracted almost 500,000 cardholders, including an average of about 1,000 new customers a day in 1992. Bialek called the one-year-old card being marketed in Ameritech's five principal states a tremendous success.
 "Despite a lingering recession and a highly competitive credit card industry, we've enjoyed a double-digit growth monthly since the card was introduced," Bialek said. "The product has strengthened Ameritech's relationships with its customers and given us a viable, profitable business in the credit card industry."
 To further strengthen its core business, Ameritech has linked the product to other company services, such as providing cardmembers with certificates that can be used toward their telephone bills. Ameritech hopes to increase the number of customers by offering special savings with merchants and on travel in the Midwest.
 Introduced in October 1991, the Ameritech Complete MasterCard is a no-fee credit card with the power of an Ameritech Bell calling card. It offers a variable, tiered interest rate, currently 14.4 or 16.9 percent depending on the balance, plus cash back on all calling card calls when consumers dial "0" plus the number.
 Ameritech is the Chicago-based parent of the Bell companies serving Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, and several other information companies, both foreign and domestic, providing mobile communications, directory publishing, audiotex services, lease financing and systems integration. Its 1991 revenues were $10.8 billion.
