AMERICAN donates as part of 'Scale Back Give Back'.
A group of 240 employees of AFS Corporate Member AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company (Birmingham, Alabama) participated in Scale Back Give Back lost 750 pounds, and AMERICAN is donating a pound of food for every pound lost by participants to First Baptist Church of ACIPCO, which is across the street from the plant.
AMERICAN pledged to donate a pound of food for every pound lost and presented a check to the church on August 8, equivalent to 750 lbs. of food or enough to provide 625 meals. The church will use the money to provide meals for low-income neighbors.
"We will use the donation to provide for those in need in our community, and it will help us strengthen and expand what we are already doing," said the Rev. Dr. Todd Morrell, who has pastored First Baptist Church of ACIPCO for 12 years. "It's a very meaningful ministry where we can see people smile when they get a meal."
Scale Back Give Back was a weight management program that ran from January to June.
