 AMERICAN VALVE MANUFACTURER POSITIONS ITSELF
IN GLOBAL MARKETPLACE WITH ISO 9001 CERTIFICATION
MATTHEWS, N.C., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Conbraco Industries, Matthews, N.C., one of the country's leading manufacturers of boiler trimmings, Apollo(R), bronze and stainless steel ball valves, bronze and stainless steel water gauges, safety relief valves and similar items, has become the first major United States owned and operated valve and flow control product manufacturer to earn the prestigious ISO 9001 certification. ISO 9001, the most comprehensive of the ISO 9000 standard series, involves compliance with 20 standard areas of clauses. ISO 9000 is the general universally recognized specification for a quality assurance system that is comprehensive, logical, practical and independently certified by accredited systems within ISO 9000.
All five Conbraco Industries' manufacturing facilities received certification, meaning each has successfully implemented very strict, detailed quality systems, encompassing product development, design, production, installation and servicing of all manufactured products. Certification, also known as registration, is issued by the International Standards Organization, ISO, after successfully passing a very extensive assessment of all operations conducted by a qualified independent agency.
According to company officials, the certification project took a year and a half to complete. All Conbraco manufacturing facilities received certification after completion of the first assessment, truly an outstanding achievement. The organization employs some 1,400 people with annual sales certification $130,000,000.
"Adherance to ISO 9000 demonstrates Conbraco's capability to control processes and ensures the quality of our products and services. ISO Certification obviously represents an important milestone in our company's progress," says Carl Mosack, Conbraco President. "It is not only a point of great pride but also a strong statement that this is an aggressive United States based and owned company that is positioned to compete in a global marketplace." ISO certification is frequently required to compete in European markets, as well as Great Britain, Canada and Australia. Though certification is strictly voluntary, a growing number of U.S. companies are realizing its importance. "We considered ISO 9000 as imperative," says Vice President of Sales, Cal C. Mosack.
"We want all of our customers in this country or any place in the world to know how seriously we take the quality process and how focused we are in meeting their current and future quality requirements."
Conbraco Industries designs and manufactures a full range of valves and related flow control products and facilities in Matthews and Monroe, N.C., and Conway and Pageland, S.C. Combined, these manufacturing plants have more than 1,000,000 square feet under roof, with major expansion projects currently in progress at two locations.
The company operates two modern foundries and manufactures most all of the component parts used in the various valve products, including stainless steel, investment castings, a full range of brass and bronze castings, screw machine products and teflon component seals. Conbraco products are sold through a world-wide distributor network for use in industrial, commercial and residential applications.
The challenge of meeting ISO standards was extremely demanding and one most welcomed for Conbraco Quality Assurance Director, David Sowers. "The organization, the discipline and demand for intense self-inspection imposed by the ISO 9000 standards present an enormous opportunity to improve the way a company makes its products," he says. "We are proud of our product quality, and we are dedicated to the continuation of the highest quality standards possible. This certification means that our customers will be assured that our quality standards and procedures are at the highest level possible. ISO 9001 indicates to all our customers that we have in place the carefully documented quality controls and systems that support the products that they buy from Conbraco Industries."
