AMERICAN STORES RECEIVES FTC APPROVAL FOR ACQUISITION OF CVS STORES
 SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- American Stores Co. (NYSE: ASC) announced today that it has received approval from the Federal Trade Commission for its acquisition of 85 stores in California operated under the Consumer Value Stores ("CVS") tradename.
