AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE DAILY REPORT

 NEW YORK, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed highe today in heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up .31 to 410 49. Advances led declines 286 to 275 with 205 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 17,084,410 shares, down from the 17,203,865 shares traded yesterday. After-Hours volume totaled 200 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 17,084,610 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Wang Laboratories, Inc. Class B, up 1/8 to 1 7/16 on 2,104,700 shares, followed by Amdahl, up 1/4 to 8 1/4 on 1,011,400 shares. The third most active issue, Tejas Power Corp. was down 3/8 to 7 1/4 on 700,100 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 341,500 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Audre Recognition Systems, down 1/16 to 4 1/4 on 67,900 shares.
 Trading in options was moderate today with 176,440 contracts changing hands as compared with 182,571 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Motorola Feb 55 series, up 1/2 to 1 3/8 on 2,443 contracts, followed by the Motorola Feb 60 series, up 1 to 4 3/8 on 1,641 contracts. The third most active was the Tele-Communication Apr 20 series unchanged at 1/4 on 1,500 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Motorola Feb 60 series, down 5/16 to 9/16 on 3,127 contracts, followed by the Motorola Feb 55 series down 15/16 to 2 5/16 on 2,958 contracts. The third most active was the Intergraph Corp. Feb 115 series, down 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 on 2,460 contracts.

 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: down 0.52 to 161.64. Contracts volume 5,540, with 2,706 puts and 2,834 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 1.91 to 346.36. Contracts volume 3,400, with 1,636 puts and 1,734 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index (XLT): up 0.20 to 34.64. Contracts volume 150 with 150 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index (XII): up 0.71 to 443.37. Contracts volume 2,685, with 733 puts and 1,952 calls.
