AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE DAILY REPORT

 NEW YORK, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed higher today in relatively active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up .14 to 403.79. Advances led declines 279 to 254 with 217 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 14,689,670 shares, down from the 16,426,115 shares traded Friday. There was no after hours trading activity today.
 Topping the most active list was U S Bioscience, down 5/8 to 10-1/8 on 480,400 shares, followed by Chambers Development Class A, down 1/8 to 4-7/8 on 469,300 shares. The third most active issue, Jan Bell Marketing was down 3/8 to 19 on 460,400 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 286,900 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Audre Recognition Systems down 1/16 to 4-7/8 on 100,300 shares.
 Trading in options was moderate today with 189,165 contracts changing hands as compared with 373,759 contracts traded Friday. Both Puts and Calls were higher.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Philip Morris Feb 75 series, up 3/4 to 3-7/8 on 2,697 contracts, followed by the Philip Morris Feb 70 series, up 1/8 to 1-3/16 on 2,393 contracts. The third most active was the United States Surgical Apr 70 series down 5/8 to 5-3/4 on 2,127 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Motorola Feb 130 series, up 1/16 to 1-15/16 on 3,562 contracts, followed by the Philip Morris Feb 70 series down 7/8 to 3 on 3,169 contracts. The third most active was the United States Surgical Apr 70 series, up 3/8 to 6-5/8 on 2,385 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
