 NEW YORK, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.89 to 381.94. Declines led advances 291 to 219 with 205 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell three cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 17,726,350 shares, up from the 14,300,960 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity reported.
 Topping the most active list was Exploration Company of Louisiana, down 1/16 to 1 1/2 on 5,180,800 shares, followed by Digicon, down 1/2 to 4 5/8 on 674,400 shares. The third most active issue, Echo Bay Mines was up 1/8 to 5 3/8 on 366,600 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 285,400 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, Inc., down 1/16 to 13/16 on 72,400 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 134,952 contracts changing hands as compared with 138,193 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the XMI Leaps December 35 series, up 1/16 to 2 3/4 on 5,000 contracts, followed by the Chemical Bank of N.Y. June 30 series, up 1/16 to 1 9/16 on 2,000 contracts. The third most active was the U.S. Surgical November 60 series down 1/8 to 1 1/2 on 1,558 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Silicon Graphics November 22 1/2 series, up 1/4 to 3 1/2 on 2,004 contracts, followed by the Silicon Graphics February 30 series unchanged at 1 1/4 on 2,000 contracts. The third most active was the Triton Energy November 40 series, down 7/16 to 3/8 on 1,604 contracts.

 S&P Midcap Index: down 0.20 to 147.82. Contracts volume 1,404, with 678 puts and 726 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 3.66 to 340.51. Contracts volume 8,346, with 3,256 puts and 5,090 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index (XLT): down 0.37 to 34.05. Contracts volume 5,009, with 5,009 puts and 0 calls.
