 NEW YORK, Nov. 2 /PRnewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 0.98 to 382.70. Advances led declines 284 to 244 with 213 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose three cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 13,680,615 shares, up from the 13,592,960 shares traded Friday. After-Hours volume totaled 500 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 13,681,115 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Devon Energy, up 1/4 to 15 on 446,300 shares, followed by Jan Bell Marketing, up 5/8 to 19 on 291,500 shares. The third most active issue, Horn & Hardart was up 1/4 to 2 3/4 on 284,800 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 225,000 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, Inc., unchanged at 1 on 61,000 shares.
 Trading in options was very light today with 141,183 contracts changing hands as compared with 125,599 contracts traded Friday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower. Topping the most active list in puts was the U.S. Surgical November 60 series, up 5/8 to 1 1/4 on 2,427 contracts, followed by the Westinghouse January 10 series, down 3/16 to 1/8 on 2,087 contracts. The third most active was the Westinghouse January 15 series down 5/16 to 2 1/4 on 1,610 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the U.S. Surgical November 70 series, down 1 3/16 to 11/16 on 2,619 contracts, followed by the Pfizer November 75 series up 13/16 to 2 3/4 on 2,519 contracts. The third most active was the U.S. Surgical November 65 series, down 1 3/4 to 2 5/8 on 1,830 contracts.
