 NEW YORK, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 2.29 to 381.29. Advances led declines 269 to 232 with 214 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose six cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 15,792,205 shares, down from the 12,421,960 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours trading today.
 Topping the most active list was Hillhaven, up 5/16 to 3 on 869,400 shares, followed by Benton Oil & Gas Company, down 3/8 to 6 on 817,900 shares. The third most active issue, Horn & Hardart was down 1/16 to 2-9/16 on 655,600 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 348,900 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, Inc., up 3/16 to 1 on 164,900 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 162,723 contracts changing hands as compared with 140,437 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the U.S. Surgical November 65 series, up 15/16 to 1-9/16 on 2,005 contracts, followed by the Disney November 35 series, unchanged at 1/8 on 1,684 contracts. The third most active was the Japan December 160 series up 7/16 to 3 on 1,585 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Triton Energy November 40 series, down 2-7/16 to 1-3/16 on 6,180 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical November 70 series down 1-9/16 to 2-1/16 on 3,241 contracts. The third most active was the Eli Lilly November 65 series, up 1/8 to 1/4 on 2,330 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: up 1.11 to 147.75. Contracts volume 1,558, with 531 puts and 1027 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 1.00 to 344.05. Contracts volume 5,785, with 2,301 puts and 3,484 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index (XLT): down .09 to 34.41. Contracts volume 25 with 25 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index (XII): up .55 to 433.29. Contracts volume 389 with 307 puts and 82 calls and
 Institutional Index (PXP): up .55 to 433.29. Contracts volume 999 with 410 puts and 589 calls.
 EuroTop 100 Index: down 3.14 tp 410.03. Contracts volume 103 with 52 puts and 51 calls.
