 NEW YORK, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.54 to 365.63. Declines led advances 261 to 250 with 200 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 11,442,320 shares, up from the 10,353,845 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 20,300 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 11,462,620 shares.
 Topping the most active list was MedChem Products, up 1/2 to 9 on 586,400 shares, followed by Heritage Media Corporation, down 1/4 to 6-1/8 on 337,500 shares. The third most active issue, Hasbro was down 1/4 to 31-7/8 on 284,500 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 180,100 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, Inc., unchanged at 3/4 on 34,300 shares.
 Trading in options was very active today with 263,211 contracts changing hands as compared with 167,174 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Phillip Morris October 80 series, up 11/16 to 3/4 on 9,335 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical October 65 series, unchanged at 1-3/4 on 5,458 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris November 80 series up 1-1/2 to 2-1/4 on 5,064 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Phillip Morris October 80 series, down 3-1/2 to 1/2 on 8,757 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris November 80 series down 2-11/16 to 2-5/16 on 8,636 contracts. The third most active was the U.S. Surgical October 65 series, down 11/16 to 13/16 on 8,395 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .39 to 142.91. Contracts volume 5,900, with 4,844 puts and 1,056 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 1.79 to 338.12. Contracts volume 13,653, with 6,433 puts and 7,220 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .18 to 33.81. Contracts volume 70, with 70 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index: up .02 to 425.74. Contracts volume 2,102, with 792 puts and 1,310 calls.
 Japan Index: up 2.79 to 177.85. Contracts volume 2,948, with 1,153 puts and 1,795 calls.
 Pharmaceutical Index: up 1.68 to 199.53. Contracts volume 594, with 183 puts and 411 calls.
