 NEW YORK, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Trading on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in light trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.64 to 386.45. Advances led declines 269 to 215 with 231 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose five cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 8,916,945 shares, down from the 11,487,145 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity reported.
 Topping the most active list was Fruit of the Loom, up 3/8 to 42 on 266,500 shares, followed by Chambers Development, Class A, up 1/4 to 8-1/8 on 204,200 shares. The third most active issue, Energy Services Corp. was up 1/8 to 1-3/8 on 191,800 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 267,100 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, Inc., up 3/4 to 3-9/16 on 148,800 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 137,555 contracts changing hands as compared with 154,354 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Chemical New York December 30 series, up 3/8 to 1-7/8 on 1,520 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris October 85 series, unchanged at 2 on 1,187 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris December 85 series unchanged at 3-1/2 on 1,117 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Royal Dutch Petroleum Co. September 85 series, down 3/4 to 3-1/2 on 4,760 contracts, followed by the Royal Dutch Petroleum Co. October 85 series down 1-3/4 to 3-1/2 on 3,970 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris October 85 series, down 3/16 to 1-7/16 on 1,895 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .43 to 145.79. Contracts volume 1,700, with 1,355 puts and 345 calls.
 Major Market Index: up .12 to 353.72. Contracts volume 7,841, with 2,564 puts and 5,277 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .01 to 35.37. Contracts volume 112, with 82 puts and 30 calls.

 Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed higher this week in light trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.60 for the week to 386.45. The Market Value Index reached its intraday high of 386.46 on Friday and slipped to its intraday low of 381.63 on Wednesday. The average price per share rose ten cents this week.
 Regular session stock volume for this holiday-shortened week totaled 40,982,355 shares, up/down from last week's trading volume of 45,906,770 shares in just over four sessions.
 Options trading was light this week as 627,845 contracts changed hands, compared with 539,749 contracts traded in last week's session.
