 NEW YORK, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Trading on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.54 to 382.82. Declines led advances 275 to 233 with 232 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell two cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 10,886,980 shares, up from the 9,691,285 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity reported today.
 Topping the most active list was Hillhaven Corporation, down 1/8 to 2-5/16 on 321,700 shares, followed by Amdahl Corporation, up 3/8 to 14- 1/4 on 285,000 shares. The third most active issue, Cheyenne Software, Inc. was up 3/4 to 17-1/8 on 256,800 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 230,800 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, Inc., down 1/16 to 2-9/16 on 55,000 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 138,150 contracts changing hands as compared with 197,786 contracts traded yesterday. Puts and calls were both lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the U.S. Surgical September 70 series, down 1-3/8 to 1/2 on 2,573 contracts, followed by the Disney September 30 series, unchanged at 1/16 on 1,600 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index September 345 series down 5/8 to 7/8 on 1,377 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Japan October series, up 4-1/4 to 11 on 3,429 contracts, followed by the UNUM Corporation September 45 series down 1/16 to 7/8 on 3,100 contracts. The third most active was the UNUM Corporation December 45 series, down 1 to 7/8 on 3,100 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .49 to 144.07. Contracts volume 4,512, with 2,422 puts and 2,090 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 1.31 to 350.77. Contracts volume 9,457, with 4,357 puts and 5,100 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .13 to 35.08. Contracts volume 55, with 55 puts and 0 calls.
