 NEW YORK, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 1.64 to 375.61. Declines led advances 247 to 240 with 218 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell five cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 9,559,700 shares, down from the 7,462,540 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity reported today.
 Topping the most active list was Amdahl, up 1/8 to 9-1/8 on 304,900 shares, followed by Exploration Company of Louisiana, up 3/16 to 1-1/2 on 288,500 shares. The third most active issue, Hillhaven Corp. was down 3/16 to 2-5/16 on 244,400 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 365,000 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Environmental Diagnostics, up 2-1/8 to 11-1/4 on 122,300 shares.
 Trading in options was very light today with 94,098 contracts changing hands as compared with 112,253 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Japan October 165 series, down 5/16 to 1-3/4 on 905 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical October 60 series, up 1/8 to 2-1/8 on 741 contracts. The third most active was the Eli Lilly and Company January 65 series up 1/4 to 4-3/4 on 741 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Cooper Industries October 50 series, up 3/4 to 2-1/8 on 1,187 contracts, followed by the Pfizer Inc. November 85 series down 1/16 to 3/16 on 1,000 contracts. The third most active was the U.S. Surgical October 65 series, down 3/16 to 1-7/16 on 983 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .59 to 143.82. Contracts volume 433, with 388 puts and 45 calls.
 Major Market Index: down .36 to 351.05. Contracts volume 4,349, with 1,731 puts and 2,618 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .03 to 35.11. Contracts volume 31, with 31 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index: up .40 to 432.62. Contracts volume 676, with 401 puts and 275 calls.
