 NEW YORK, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 2.37 to 385.10. Advances led declines 285 to 219 with 224 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose six cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 12,526,975 shares, up from the 10,295,975 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity reported.
 Topping the most active list was IVAX Corp., up 2 5/8 to 29 5/8 on 905,400 shares, followed by DWG Corporation, down 1/8 to 11 3/8 on 701,100 shares. The third most active issue, U.S. Bioscience, was up 3/8 to 8 1/4 on 432,200 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 370,400 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications Inc., unchanged at 15/16 on 170,600 shares.
 Trading in options was very active today with 190,683 contracts changing hands as compared with 139,553 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Philip Morris September 85 series, down 9/16 to 1 1/2 on 4,272 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical September 70 series, unchanged at 1 3/8 on 2,906 contracts. The third most active was the Philip Morris September 80 series down 1/16 to 3/16 on 2,648 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Philip Morris September 70 series, up 1 1/2 to 15 on 5,901 contracts, followed by the Philip Morris March 85 series up 5/8 to 4 7/8 on 5,832 contracts. The third most active was the Philip Morris December 85 series, up 7/16 to 3 3/8 on 5,731 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: up 0.35 to 144.77. Contracts volume 791, with 201 puts and 590 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 0.47 to 352.68. Contracts volume 11,427, with 2,847 puts and 8,580 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index (XLT): up .05 to 35.27. Contracts volume 16 with 15 puts and 1 call.
 Institutional Index: up 0.51 to 435.56. Contracts volume 3,750 with 1,587 puts and 2,163 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: up 0.51 to 435.56. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 Japan Index: up 7.83 to 185.21. Contracts volume 9,287 with 4,583 puts and 4,704 calls.
