 NEW YORK, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.03 to 380.94. Advances led declines 267 to 214 with 220 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose three cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 13,229,345 shares, up from the 10,408,255 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity.
 Topping the most active list was Turner Broadcasting, Class B, up 1/4 to 18-5/8 on 2,659,000 shares, followed by U.S. Bioscience, up 3/8 to 9-1/2 on 567,700 shares. The third most active issue, Michael Baker Corporation, was down 1/4 to 11-5/8 on 525,800 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 218,600 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, Inc., up 1/16 to 3-1/2 on 65,400 shares.
 Trading in options was active today with 187,832 contracts changing hands, compared with 151,723 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Major Market Index October 300 series, down 1/16 to 1/16 on 3,333 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index October 305 series, down 1/16 to 1/16 on 3,195 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index October 315 series down 1/16 to 1/8 on 3,100 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Major Market Index October 310 series, down 2 to 44-1/2 on 3,000 contracts, followed by the S&P Midcap 400 October 135 series down 2-5/8 to 10-3/4 on 3,000 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index October 325 series, down 4 to 29-5/8 on 3,000 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .66 to 145.82. Contracts volume 27,006, with 13,610 puts and 13,396 calls.
 Major Market Index: up .48 to 353.16. Contracts volume 40,511, with 20,941 puts and 19,570 calls.
