 NEW YORK, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.29 to 382.73. Advances led declines 272 to 206 with 221 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose four cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 10,295,975 shares, down from the 10,438,140 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 5,400 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 10,301,375 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Nabors Industries, up 1/8 to 7-7/8 on 534,200 shares, followed by Weatherford International, up 3/8 to 6-7/8 on 451,600 shares. The third most active issue, Exploration Company of Louisiana was unchanged at 1-3/8 on 333,700 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 211,900 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, Inc., up 1/8 to 15/16 on 71,900 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 139,553 contracts changing hands as compared with 110,055 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Phillip Morris September 80 series, down 3/16 to 1/4 on 3,423 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical September 65 series, up 1/8 to 7/16 on 1,664 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris October 85 series down 1-1/8 to 2-5/8 on 1,356 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Phillip Morris September 80 series, up 1-3/16 to 4-1/8 on 5,641 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris September 85 series up 5/16 to 5/8 on 2,350 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris October 80 series, up 1 to 4-5/8 on 2,284 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up 1.08 to 144.42. Contracts volume 1,956, with 1,280 puts and 676 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 2.35 to 352.21. Contracts volume 5,738, with 1,920 puts and 3,818 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .23 to 35.22. Contracts volume 547, with 130 puts and 417 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 1.84 to 435.05. Contracts volume 1,856, with 306 puts and 1,550 calls.
