 NEW YORK, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 3.41 to 380.90. Declines led advances 352 to 161 with 205 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell nine cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 11,454,560 shares, down from the 17,134,070 shares traded Friday. There was no after-hours activity reported.
 Topping the most active list was Wang Laboratories, Class B, down 1/16 to 5/16 on 3,391,100 shares, followed by Hasbro Inc., down 1-1/8 to 29-7/8 on 234,300 shares. The third most active issue, Hemlo Gold Mines, Inc. was unchanged at 8 on 203,700 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 189,700 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, Inc., unchanged at 1 on 31,600 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 147,009 contracts changing hands as compared with 242,479 contracts traded Friday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the AMR Corp. September 50 series, unchanged at 1/8 on 1,500 contracts, followed by the Nabisco September 7 1/2 series, unchanged at 1/16 on 1,300 contracts. The third most active was the Wells Fargo September 65 series up 1/4 to 1-1/4 on 1,038 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Glaxo Holdings plc January 35 series, unchanged at 1/4 on 2,285 contracts, followed by the Quantum November 17 1/2 series down 3/16 to 5/16 on 2,258 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris September 70 series, down 3/4 to 9-1/2 on 1,879 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down 1.99 to 141.18. Contracts volume 1,481, with 1,018 puts and 463 calls.
 Major Market Index: down .80 to 345.80. Contracts volume 10,511, with 5,821 puts and 4,690 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .08 to 34.58. Contracts volume 254, with 124 puts and 130 calls.
 Institutional Index: down 3.36 to 427.89. Contracts volume 2,944, with 1,397 puts and 1,547 calls.
