 NEW YORK, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.02 to 385.87. Declines led advances 265 to 217 with 238 issues unchanged. The average price per share was unchanged.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 15,528,010 shares, down from the 23,852,180 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 500 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 15,528,510 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Wang Laboratories, Class B, up 1/16 to 5/16 on 5,554,300 shares, followed by U.S. Bioscience, down 1/8 to 8-3/8 on 526,700 shares. The third most active issue, American Exploration was unchanged at 2-7/8 on 254,900 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 204,200 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, Inc., down 1/16 to 2-3/4 on 93,800 shares.
 Trading in options was moderate today with 171,140 contracts changing hands as compared with 197,579 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Disney August 35 series, down 1/8 to 5/8 on 2,233 contracts, followed by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation January 17 1/2 series, up 1/16 to 1-13/16 on 1,551 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index August 350 series down 1/4 to 1/2 on 1,400 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Pfizer Inc. September 85 series, up 3/4 to 1-3/8 on 3,535 contracts, followed by the Pfizer Inc. December 85 series up 3/4 to 4 on 3,407 contracts. The third most active was the The Coastal Corporation December 25 series, unchanged at 4 on 2,380 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .03 to 144.16. Contracts volume 2,949, with 1,800 puts and 1,149 calls.
 Major Market Index: down .12 to 352.84. Contracts volume down 10,672, with 5,281 puts and 5,391 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .02 to 35.28. Contracts volume 143, with 143 puts and 0 calls.
