 NEW YORK, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in light trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.33 to 388.08. Declines led advances 255 to 231 with 235 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 8,488,400 shares, up from the 8,351,710 shares traded yesterday. There was no after hours activity today.
 Topping the most active list was U.S. BioScience, up 1/2 to 8-5/8 on 368,400 shares, followed by Fruit of the Loom, down 1/4 to 38-7/8 on 222,800 shares. The third most active issue, Weatherford International was up 3/8 to 6-1/8 on 207,200 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 178,100 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition System, up 1/8 to 3-3/16 on 40,600 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 138,555 contracts changing hands as compared with 104,136 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the XMI Leaps December 37 1/2 series, unchanged at 3-3/4 on 3,015 contracts, followed by the S&P Midcap 400 August 150 series, up 5/8 to 6 on 2,080 contracts. The third most active was the S&P Midcap 400 October 150 series up 1/8 to 7-1/4 on 2,000 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the XMI Leaps December 37 1/2 series, up 3/16 to 2-7/8 on 3,000 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical August 80 series down 2-1/16 to 11/16 on 2,445 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris August 80 series, down 7/16 to 13/16 on 1,934 ontracts.

 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down .37 to 143.91. Contracts volume 10,427, with 8,748 puts and 1,679 calls.
 Major Market Index: down .43 to 354.04. Contracts volume 8,151, with 4,344 puts and 3,807 calls.
