 NEW YORK, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in light trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.46 to 382.55. Advances led declines 254 to 233 with 235 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell two cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 9,719,075 shares, down from the 10,508,590 shares traded yesterday. There was no after hours activity.
 Topping the most active list was International Corona Corp., up 1/8 to 4-11/16 on 322,700 shares, followed by Fruit of the Loom, unchanged at 33-7/8 on 304,000 shares. The third most active issue, Echo Bay Mines was up 3/8 to 6-3/8 on 262,800 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 262,600 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications Inc., down 1/8 to 1-5/16 on 39,100 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 164,103 contracts changing hands as compared with 164,367 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the S&P Midcap 400 July 145 series, unchanged at 4-3/8 on 2,819 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris July 75 series, down 7/16 to 5/16 on 2,472 contracts. The third most active was the S&P Midcap 400 July 140 series up 5/16 to 1-7/16 on 2,271 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Phillip Morris July 75 series, up 1-1/8 to 3 on 5,404 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical July 100 series up 1-1/8 to 4 1/2 on 2,524 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris July 80 series, up 3/16 to 3/8 on 2,190 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: down .40 to 141.13. Contracts volume 9,002, with 7,445 puts and 1,557 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 2.74 to 352.17. Contracts volume 7,972, with 3,540 puts and 4,432 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index (XLT): down .27 to 35.22. Contracts volume 805 with 779 puts and 26 calls.
 Institutional Index: down 1.34 to 425.12. Contracts volume 1,630 with 1,101 puts and 529 calls.
 Japan Index: up 4.45 to 168.92. Contracts volume 3,318, with 946 puts and 2,372 calls.
 Pharmaceutical Index: down 2.15 to 205.56. Contracts volume 731, with 295 puts and 436.
 Computer Technology Index: down 3.00 to 117.23. Contracts volume 12, with 12 puts and 0 calls.
 Oil Index: up .86 to 228.82. Contracts volume 64, with 27 puts and 37 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: down 1.34, with 425.12. Contracts volume, 10, with 0 puts and 10 calls

 Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed higher this holiday shortened week in light trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 8.51 for the week to 382.55. The Market Value Index reached its intraday high of 384.19 on Thursday and slipped to its intraday low of 374.02 on Monday. The average price per share rose nine cents this week.
 Regular session stock volume for the week totaled 47,775,305 shares, down from the volume of 50,769,855 shares traded last week.
 Options trading was moderate this week as 607,795 contracts changed hands, compared with 919,705 contracts traded in last week's session.
