 NEW YORK, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.83 to 391.61. Advances led declines 296 to 256 with 229 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose six cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 12,161,730 shares, down from the 13,780,370 shares traded Friday. There was no after-hours activity today.
 Topping the most active list was Wang Labs Class B, down 1/4 to 3- 1/2 on 725,100 shares, followed by Hillhaven Corp., down 1/8 to 2-1/8 on 588,100 shares. The third most active issue, Chambers Development Class A was down 1/8 to 6-5/8 on 415,700 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 166,800 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, down 5/16 to 3-1/8 on 39,900 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 130,107 contracts changing hands as compared with 136,599 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the MidCap May 145 series, down 1-7/16 to 1-15/16 on 2,281 contracts, followed by the Amgen Jun. 60 series, down 3/4 to 5-3/4 on 1,508 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index May 350 series down 1-3/16 to 1-3/4 on 1,401 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Seagate Technology Jun. 15 series, up 1/8 to 1-15/16 on 2,369 contracts, followed by the Unisys May 10 series down 1/4 to 7/16 on 1,970 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index May 355 series, up 1-11/16 to 4 on 1,543 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: up 1.23 to 144.03. Contracts volume 5,458, with 3,925 puts and 1,533 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 4.60 to 356.71. Contracts volume 8,492, with 4,872 puts and 3,620 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: up 4.60 to 356.71. Contracts volume 1, with 1 puts and 0 calls.
 LT (XLT) Index: up .46 to 35.67. Contracts volume 1,071 with 1,071 puts and 0 calls.
