 NEW YORK, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed mixed today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.83 to 389.78. Advances led declines 277 to 252 with 209 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell 2 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 13,780,370 shares, down from the 14,058,080 shares traded yesterday. There was no after hours activity today.
 Topping the most active list was American Exploration, unchanged at 2-1/8 on 2,182,800 shares, followed by Hasbro, down 5/8 to 25-1/2 on 481,800 shares. The third most active issue, Hillhaven Corp. was down 1/8 to 2-1/4 on 402,900 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 190,100 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Digitran, up 3/16 to 3-15/16 on 37,500 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 136,599 contracts changing hands as compared with 159,123 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the XMI LEAPS Dec. 27 1/2 series, unchanged at 3/16 on 5,000 contracts, followed by the XMI LEAPS Dec. 35 series, unchanged at 2-9/16 on 3,022 contracts. The third most active was the XMI LEAPS Dec. 30 series up 1/8 to 1/2 on 2,500 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Du Pont Jun. 55 series, down 1/8 to 1-1/2 on 3,218 contracts, followed by the XMI LEAPS Dec. 35 series unchanged at 4-3/4 on 3,000 contracts. The third most active was the Chase Manhattan May 25 series, unchanged at 1 on 1,550 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: down .66 to 142.49. Contracts volume 4,696, with 2,755 puts and 1,941 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 2.33 to 351.99. Contracts volume 6,122, with 3,602 puts and 2,520 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: down 2.33 to 351.99. Contracts volume 2, with 2 puts and 0 calls.
 LT (XLT) Index: down .23 to 35.20. Contracts volume 13,669 with 10,669 puts and 3,000 calls.
 Institutional Index: down 3.33 to 424.74. Contracts volume 797, with 244 puts and 553 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: down 3.33 to 424.74. Contracts volume 40, with 0 puts and 40 calls.
 Japan Index: down .93 to 174.43. Contracts volume 420, with 125 puts and 295 calls.
 Computer Technology Index: up .05 to 122.64. Contracts volume 20, with 12 puts and 8 calls.
 Oil Index: down 1.47 to 233.35. Contracts volume 290, with 229 puts and 61 calls.

 Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed higher this week inactive trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 3.80 for the week to 389.78. The Market Value Index reached its intraday high of 390.78 on Thursday and slipped to its intraday low of 382.09 on Friday. The average price per share rose 13 cents this week.
 Regular session stock volume for the week totaled 63,599,175 shares, down from the volume of 65,487,095 shares traded last week.
 Options trading was moderate this week as 751,603 contracts changed hands, compared with 926,685 contracts traded in last week's session.
