 NEW YORK, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 0.83 to 392.46. Advances led declines 274 to 223 with 233 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose 2 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 11,088,860 shares, down from the 11,575,350 shares traded yesterday. There was no after hours activity today.
 Topping the most active list was PEC Israel Economic Corp., down 1/4 to 13-1/4 on 796,000 shares, followed by Exploration Company of Louisiana, up 3/16 to 1-1/2 on 541,400 shares. The third most active issue, IVAX Corporation was up 1/2 to 22-3/4 on 410,500 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 157,300 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, down 3/16 to 1-1/8 on 39,600 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 122,178 contracts changing hands as compared with 155,134 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Philip Morris Jun. 65 series, up 1/16 to 3/16 on 1,080 contracts, followed by the Philip Morris Jul. 70 series, up 1/4 to 1 on 1,080 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index Jun. 300 series unchanged at 1/8 on 1,056 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Glaxo Aug. 30 series, unchanged at 3/4 on 1,976 contracts, followed by the Philip Morris Jun. 65 series down 1 to 11-1/8 on 1,820 contracts. The third most active was the Philip Morris Jun. 80 series, down 1/8 to 11/16 on 1,492 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: up .23 to 143.20. Contracts volume 2,333, with 1,941 puts and 392 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 1.22 to 357.32. Contracts volume 18,630, with 9,514 puts and 9,116 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: up 1.22 to 357.32. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 LT (XLT) Index: up .12 to 35.73. Contracts volume 1,293 with 1,042 puts and 251 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 1.78 to 427.84. Contracts volume 3,001, with 845 puts and 2,156 calls.

 Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed higher this week in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 2.09 for the week to 392.46. The Market Value Index reached its intraday high of 392.76 on Wednesday and slipped to its intraday low of 390.37 on Tuesday. The average price per share rose six cents this week.
 Regular session stock volume for the week totaled 60,136,180 shares, down from the volume of 73,244,190 shares traded last week.
 Options trading was light this week as 759,358 contracts changed hands, compared with 698,106 contracts traded in last week's session.
