 NEW YORK, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 2.38 to 393.46. Declines led advances 311 to 237 with 235 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell 7 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 10,798,730 shares, down from the 11,993,820 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours trading today.
 Topping the most active list was Exploration Company of Louisiana, up 1/8 to 1 on 657,700 shares, followed by Sbarro, down 11 to 27 on 495,300 shares. The third most active issue, Chambers Development Class A was unchanged at 8-1/8 on 339,700 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 157,400 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Medphone, down 1/8 to 7/8 on 40,800 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 183,612 contracts changing hands as compared with 120,599 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Institutional Index Jun. 400 series, down 2-3/8 to 1-1/2 on 5,450 contracts, followed by the Institutional Index Jun. 375 series, down 2-3/16 to 3/8 on 5,450 contracts. The third most active was the Institutional Index Dec. 425 series down 5-1/2 to 17 on 5,450 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Institutional Index Jun. 400 series, up 14-3/8 to 31-3/8 on 5,450 contracts, followed by the Institutional Index Dec. 425 series up 2-1/2 to 24-1/2 on 5,450 contracts. The third most active was the Institutional Index Dec. 450 series, down 3/4 to 11-5/8 on 5,450 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: down .77 to 144.44. Contracts volume 8,520, with 3,621 puts and 4,899 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 2.00 to 355.64. Contracts volume 6,643, with 3,698 puts and 2,945 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: down 2.00 to 355.64. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 LT (XLT) Index: down .20 to 35.56. Contracts volume 1,480 with 1,457 puts and 23 calls.
